In a truly appalling show of disrespect, Senator Lidia Thorpe has denounced King Charles III and has broken her oath of allegiance. It is time for the people of Australia to demand she apologise profusely to the King, and to the Parliament and to the people of Australia, and unreservedly express genuine loyalty to the Crown, or face the consequences.
Senators must all take seriously the promise of allegiance which they must make in service of the Monarch, as required by section 42 of the Commonwealth Constitution.
While the Senate has no power to expel one of its number, it has ongoing power to deny a place in the chamber for anyone exhibiting public contempt for the Crown.
Senator Lidia Thorpe firstly spoke disloyal words when ostensibly pledging allegiance, then grudgingly conformed, but has clearly broken her promise during her public outburst on 21 October, yelling at His Majesty: “You are not my king”.
Senators must now defend the integrity of the pledges they themselves have made, and the honour of the Monarch they serve, by requiring Thorpe to absent herself from the Senate until she apologises profusely to the King and his Parliament, and re-states her allegiance without reservation.
The disrespect she has shown towards the King of Australia, and to her colleagues and to the people, cannot be tolerated.
If she cannot be thrown out of Parliament, and if she is unrepentant, she must be thrown out of the chamber indefinitely.
Use the form below to send a personalised email to all your Senators, firmly urging them to discipline Senator Lidia Thorpe at the earliest opportunity.
