FamilyVoice Australia is appalled by a Queensland parliamentary recommendation to legalise euthanasia and assisted suicide, particularly when many Australians are experiencing severe anxiety during the coronavirus pandemic.
“While euthanasia and assisted suicide are never appropriate policies, they are especially appalling when Australians are experiencing severe anxiety during the coronavirus pandemic,” said FamilyVoice spokesman David d’Lima.
“The Queensland parliamentary committee has foolishly recommended government-funded suicide should not be excluded from people facing depression or anxiety."
The committee has also advised that anybody with a terminal illness, including those refusing treatment, can access the scheme, regardless of their expected date of death."
“While millions of Australians are vulnerable to sickness, depression and anxiety because of economic ruin, Queensland Labor politicians are commending doctor-assisted suicide,” David d’Lima said.
“Politicians who endorse suicide among the elderly and unwell should hang their heads in shame.”
