Christian schools are under renewed threat.
Independent MP Allegra Spender has introduced the Sex Discrimination and Fair Work Amendment (Equality in Treatment in Religious Schools) Bill 2026.
If passed, it would remove the federal protections that enable Christian schools across Australia to manage staff and student behaviour in line with their sincerely held religious beliefs.
Please take action today. Email your federal Member of Parliament and Senators and ask them to oppose against this Bill.
The Bill would:
- Prevent Christian schools from setting and enforcing behavioural expectations for students based on their faith;
- Remove protections that allow schools to ensure staff uphold the religious ethos of the school community;
- Restrict the ability of schools to consider faith and lifestyle commitments when employing or promoting staff;
- Override belief and conduct clauses in awards and enterprise agreements.
Christian schools are not simply businesses. They are communities built on a partnership between parents, staff and churches, formed to educate children within a clear biblical worldview. Families choose these schools because they want their children taught and cared for in an environment that reflects their faith.
This Bill would undermine that partnership and leave Christian schools vulnerable to complaints, legal action and pressure to abandon their beliefs.
Please take action today. Email your federal Member of Parliament and Senators and ask them to vote against this Bill.
Your message can urge them to protect the right of Christian schools to:
- Uphold their religious beliefs and ethos;
- Set behavioural expectations for students;
- Employ and retain staff who support the school’s faith commitments;
- Respect the choices of parents who want a Christian education for their children.
Parliament needs to hear from parents, teachers, pastors and supporters of religious freedom. A short, respectful email from you can make a real difference.
Thank you for standing with Christian schools, parents and families.
