Christmas is part of Australia's culture and Christian heritage. Our schools should acknowledge and celebrate it.

When a Tasmanian primary school changed the name of its annual ‘Christmas on the Hill’ event to ‘End of Year Extravaganza’, concerned parents contacted Premier Jeremy Rockliff.

Premier Rockliff swiftly raised the matter with the Education Department and reaffirmed his expectation that schools should acknowledge and celebrate Christmas.

“Christmas is part of our culture. It's part of our way of life”, said Premier Rockliff.

“I've made it very clear that Christmas in all our schools is here to stay.”

Eric Abetz, Treasurer of Tasmania, said: “Christmas is celebrated by the overwhelming majority of Tasmanians, and I believe our schools should be places where those traditions are celebrated too.”

Please join FamilyVoice in thanking Premier Jeremy Rockliff for standing up for Christmas and making clear that our schools should acknowledge and celebrate this important part of Australian life.

Your message will show that Australian families value leaders who are prepared to stand up for our Christian heritage and cultural traditions.
